Help with Surface Area? Is my answer correct? This is the Surface area of this right square based pyramid
My answer is 172.32 m^2 for the surface area
172.32 m^2 is correct for a single triangular face, if that's all you're looking for. But the surface area of all 4 sides is 4 times that, and the surface area of the base is 8^2
My answer choices are A. 236.32 m^2 B. 172.32 m^2 C. 224 m^2 D. 160 m^2
Then it appears that the question that was asked was "what is the surface area of one side of this pyramid?" In which case, 172.32 is the correct answer. :-)
She simply asked: "1. What is the Surface area of this right square based pyramid?" but I hope that's what she meant cuz that seems the most logical :D Could you help me with the rest?
DOHHH!!! Ignore my previous comment!! I stacked up my calculations wrong... Stand by for a minute...
Okay... 172.32 is the surface area for all 4 faces. However, most of these questions expect the base to be added to the total surface area, so that would be 172.32 + 8^2 = 236.32 m^2
Ooh, I didn't realize about the base
Yeah, and the worst part is that both answers are included in the list of answers. so I can't really tell for sure which one she wants. But if it were me, I would answer 236.32
yea I'm going to go with 236.32 just to be safe
Most questions of this type do want ALL the faces included, so I think you'll be safe with that. :-) And I'm really sorry for my earlier answers. I had the total area listed right under my calculations for a single face, so I was reading the wrong numbers.
Its alright! :D Would you mind helping me with more? I don't want weekend work haha xD
How many more?
Well there are 15, but I'm not going to ask you to help me with 15 haha, I just need help with 3 more, I think I can do the last 2 surface area
Okay. I'll try to help you with 3 more,
Thanks :D My answer for this was 321.6 km^2
She asked: "What is the Surface area of this equilateral triangular based pyramid?"
Check! I got the same result! :-) Next?
Awesome! I'm still working on this one, I'm almost done
She asked "What is the SA of this right square based pyramid? Don’t forget to solve for the slant height" , I'm not sure how to solve for the slant height though
Okay, I think the simplest way to approach this is to draw a line from the center of the base to the center of one of the sides. That will give us a right triangle that has 2 sides of 18 & 6. The hypotenuse of that triangle will give us the slanted height of a pyramid face. So the hypotenuse is: sqrt(6^2 + 18^2) = 18.97 So now we can do a face: 1/2 * 12 * 18.97 There are 4 faces + the base, which is 12^2
Sorry, Openstudy wasn't working for me :/ reading now
599.28 i^2?
mi*
I got 599.368 But 599.28 is acceptable with rounding errors. :-)
:D Great :3 This is the next one..
"What is the SA of this regular hexagonal based pyramid?"
Okay, the only tricky thing I see here is the base, which is a hexagon. Picture this figure as 6 triangles on top and a base also composed of 6 triangles. A single pyramid face has a base of 12 and a slant-height of 33.6 A triangle composing 1/6 of the base hexagon has a height of 10.4 and a base of 12 |dw:1367007038676:dw|
PS: I just realized my drawing looks like a 3-sided pyramid. Beware: It is not. It's a plane figure. :-)
Like a kite. :-)
Its still a kinda confusing to me :/
Well, you've done all the other triangular calculations with no problem. These are no harder! :-) What's the area of 1 pyramid face 12*33.6 ?
403.2 :D
It's a triangle...you forgot to multiply by 1/2.
whoops sorry, I didn't press enter hard enough! 201.6?
Heheh.. Okay, save that value. Now what's the area of a triangle 12*10.4 ?
Yep...probably should've worded that differently...>.> 62.4?
Right!! Now add the old 201.6 to the current 62.4, and you get 264 even, which is the SA of the kite shaped figure above. Ya still with me on this? We;re 1/6th done!! :-)
Yup! So now its 264*6?
Righto!!! And that's the final answer! :-)
Awesome!!! :D Thank you!! :3 I'm going to work on the rest >.> now its volume D: Thanks again, I wish I could give you more than one medal :(
Np!! Glad I was able to help!! I think you've done very well and shouldn't have any problems figuring out the rest! As for me, I think I'll go raid the fridge...thinking gives me the munchies! :-)
Haha I hear that! Thanks :D
