Without any limiting factors, a population may grow _________________________.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With nothing to stop the growth, the population will continue to increase. Limiting factors stop the population growth so [births + immigration = deaths + emigration] and the population numbers are stable. Limiting factors are the resources the population needs - the space, water, air, food, shelter and access to mates. The resources can only support a maximum number of individuals. Population change = (births - deaths) + (immigrants - emigrants) Population's decrease if deaths & emigrations are greater than births and immigrations. If resources diminish the population maximum decreases.
