You have told ABC similar to DEC. Hence AB/DE = BC/EC = AC/DC. (Since corresponding sides of similar triangles are proportional.) BC/EC = AC/DC 36/6 = 24-2X/X 6X = 24-2X 8X = 24 OR X = 3
