You have the number of places right. Now you have to figure out which direction.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thats all i needed in the prob
OpenStudy (mertsj):
So yes...the decimal has to be moved 5 places...which way...right or left?

Let's approach it a different way.

Is 0.000072 a big number or a little number?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Little
OpenStudy (mertsj):
So when you write it in scientific notation, the exponent should be negative.
OpenStudy (mertsj):
You moved the decimal 5 places to the right when you wrote 7.2. Now you have to "fix" that with your exponent. And the -5 says "move the decimal point 5 places to the left".
That means you will have your original number back again. So you have not changed the number...only the form is which it is written.

ok
