How do I find the area of this shaded polygon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the area of the triangle which is 1/2 * base * height Find the area of the rectangle (length * width) subtract the triangles area from the rectangles area to give you the remaining shaded areas value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the rectangle area is 21x34=714 so is the triangle area 31x16/2=272?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

base would be 34, it appears the triangle stretches the width of the rectangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you wrote it wrong but did the problem right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops yeah meant 34. so then just take 714-272 and 442u^2 is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks good from where I sit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright awesome. thanks for your help :)
