Given the median and trapezoid MNOP, what is the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (zale101):

You need to find the median of a trapezoid which is the average of two bases. Here is the formula for that: (B1 + B2)/2 = M

OpenStudy (zale101):

First, start with 4x- 16 and x + 16 then u divide them by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4x-16+32 }{ 2 }= x+16\] :/

OpenStudy (zale101):

:D right!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i multiply 16 with 2 ???

OpenStudy (zale101):

Do combine like terms like this 2x - x = 16 -8

OpenStudy (zale101):

x = 8

OpenStudy (zale101):

Combining like terms basically mean to simplify expressions like by adding or subtracting like terms..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i was trying to do the math :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 5x=32 :/

OpenStudy (zale101):

that's ok, you supposed to do this :)

OpenStudy (zale101):

Your right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 6.4 :/

OpenStudy (zale101):

Yeah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was rong you wer right :P

OpenStudy (zale101):

People tend to do these kind of mistakes, and i am here to help you out in Openstudy :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
