please, what are the evidences in support of hybridization?

Carbon atom for example. It has 2s2 2p2 configuration. Normally you would predict a carbon atom and two hydrogen atoms make a stable molecule like CH2. But, we know that the stable molecule is CH4. Because, 2 s and 2 p orbitals hybridize and generates 4 sp3 hybrid orbitals.
