(-5p)^2 is 25p^2 but should it be a negative or a positive

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

\((-5p)^2=-5p*-5p=(-5*-5)*(p*p)\) \(=25p^2\) so positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you very much

OpenStudy (hunus):

It should be a positive because you're squaring the 'quantity' (-5). So it's (-5)*(-5)*p^2 and the negative of a negative is positive

OpenStudy (ajprincess):

welcome:)
