determine if the equation is a direct variation equation: XY=6

OpenStudy (mertsj):

In a direct variation, if x gets bigger, y gets bigger also. Is that true for xy = 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It does not say, XY= 6 just has to be adjusted to match the formula y=kx . 6 being the k

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You have to figure it out: If x = 1 and y = 6 then xy=6 is true if x = 2 and y = 3 then xy = 6 is true x went up from 1 to 2 y went from 6 to 3 Did y go up?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So you think when y changes from 6 to 3 that it went up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, because it is less.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So is it a direct variation or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does direct mean it goes down ?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Direct means if x goes up, y goes up. If x goes down, y goes down.
