Explain how a ship made of materials that are much denser than water is able to float on water?

Help @thomaster @jperez570

@freethinker

OpenStudy (freethinker):

keyword: displacement

thomaster (thomaster):

The ship weighs less than the amount of water they displace

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thx @thomaster & @freethinker

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because of the air inside the hull.

thomaster (thomaster):

@jperez570 yup, and that air weights nothing compared to the amount of water that would be in that place if the ship wasn't there :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea what he said! ^^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx @jperez570

OpenStudy (freethinker):

try this: take a deep breath then try sinking to the bottom of the pool but without letting air out of your nose nor mouth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
