a sial around long distance phone company charges 3 cents per minute, plus 30 cents to connect. mellissa's normal long distance carrier charges a flat rate of 7 cents per minute. for what call times will melissa save money with the dial around company? how do i set this up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dial*

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Write an expression for each and set them equal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3+30x=7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get 7.6 but i'm not sure if its right

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Close. Let x = number of minutes. Dial around company costs: 0.30 + 0.03x Normal long distance co.: 0.07x 0.30 + 0.03x = 0.07x You have the x with the wrong amount. The per minute charge for both cases is the one with the x. The flat fee has no x.

oh i see 7.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):
