I need to write a short story and need a great idea that is about heroism!!!! I kind of want something original, different and awesome - not the big fancy battles; something I can relate to....Medals for GREAT ideas!!!

There's lots of ideas for being heroic in everyday life -- helping a student do better in class to avoid them flunking out, doing something for your parents that they didn't expect to make things easier for when they come home from work, rescuing a kitty from being abandoned on the street, or just providing an ear for someone who needs a person to talk to. In moments like that, you can be a hero.

There's also a little known story from WW2. University students and their professor collectively known as the White Rose created anti-Nazi propaganda to try and encourage people to rise up against them. Just imagine that -- these were young adults that stood up to one of the worst and most brutal regimes in human history in their own way. Not with guns or fists, but with their minds. Unfortunately, they also paid the price for resistance, but they knew what they were getting into and bravely accepted it.

You're totally right when you said that being a hero doesn't involve big battles. There are things like that happening everyday in small ways that never get reported in the press or popularized in movies. Sometimes just asking a question in class makes you a hero in your own way by voicing something that other students may want to ask, too.
