–2/5 x – 9 < 9/10 (2 points)

OpenStudy (nathan917):

Coming to the question : (-2/5)x - 9 < 9/10 (-2/5)x < 9/10 + 9 ( taking -9 to R.H.S. , just like what we do in solving equations) (-2/5)x < (9 + 90)/10 ( taking L.C.M. of R.H.S.) (-2/5)x * 10 < 99 ( cross multiplying) -2x * 2 < 99 -4x < 99 -x < 99/4 (diving both sides by 4) Now, we are not multiplying or dividing both sides by -ve because it would create difficulty and therefore we would first add x on both sides then subtract 99/4. -x + x < 99/4 + x 0 < 99/4 + x -99/4 < 99/4 + x - 99/4 -99/4 < x Or x > -99/4
