a regular polygon has an apothem length 10, find the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 sided polygon*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the forumla goes this way Area = (perimeter x apothem length ) / 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I find the perimeter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perimeter = number of sides x length of one side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would that be 9x10? or do I need to find the length of one side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wrong 10 is ur apothem length .. yes u can solve it by finding a side as well but here is a trick if ur good wid trigonometry this formula is a killer one Area = apothem length ^2 x number of sides x tan (180/number of sides)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in ur case 10 ^2 x 9 x tan(180/9) is the area 133.869

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that makes a lot of sense. thank you
