OpenStudy (nincompoop):

photosynthesis - absorption spectrum of spinach extract

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Doesn't it absorb every colour except green?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

no. the data showed high absorbency (it absorbs more than it reflects or transmit) of wavelengths ranging from 400-475, >500 nm, 675 nm. I used the visible light spectrum as my background in the graph to emphasize what these wavelengths correspond to (violet-blue and red). The reason you will see the word chlorophyll crossed out in the report is because there's a realization that leaves generally contain more than one pigment - chlorophyll (A, B) and carotenoids (yellow and orange). The result correlated and confirmed the classic experiment conducted by Theodore W. Engelman. I know that this is a simple experiment and need more experiments perhaps with different type of leaves.
