For the following function determine the co-ordinates of the first turning point. Give your answer in degrees and use differentiation to determine whether the point is a maxima or minima. y=6x +6cos2x

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

First you need to find the first derivative, so differentiate y w.r.t. x

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

w.r.t. means with respect to x

OpenStudy (loser66):

thanks, got it

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Once you find the first turning point, find the second derivative at that x value, check if its positive (minimum) or negative (maximum)

OpenStudy (loser66):

I 'm not the Asker, I know how to get the answer for the problem, just don't know that abbreviation, :)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Yeah i don't see it used much often, but in school it was used a lot so it became the norm for me.

OpenStudy (loser66):

D , anyway, the asker will get the answer from your instruction, it's quite clear.

Thanks for the help I've worked it out
