Can you please help me, i really want to know how to do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In one week, Kean ate a total of 8 ounces of grains at breakfast, fourteen ounces of grains at lunch, and sixteen ounces of grains at dinner. Which of the following shows a simplified ratio of his servings of grain at breakfast to his servings of grain at lunch?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not an answer these are the answers four colon seven four over nineteen 7 to 4 four colon fifteen

OpenStudy (amistre64):

breakfast:lunch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 4:7? because that is half of the ratio?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (amistre64):

8:14 simplifies to 8/2:14/2 = 4:7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so would this fall under the same thing Which of the following shows a proportion? fourteen over four equals eighteen over eight three over eight equals six over sixteen six over eight equals twelve over four nine over fifteen equals thirteen over nineteen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the answer be 3/8 = 6/18 @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a proportion is defined as equal ratios you can chk by "cross multiplying"

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[if~\frac ab=\frac cd,~then~ad=bc\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since 3(18) not= 8(6) ... that is not the correct option

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but you have a typo .... three over eight equals six over sixteen 3 / 8 = 6 / 16 3(16) = 8(6) 48 = 48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you do cross multiplying would you multiply by ad then bc?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ad and bc are the RESULT of cross multiplying .....
