Please help!! I just need to know if there is a way to raise the temperature of matter without using heat energy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

without raising the temperature, you can increase the volume of a gas to raise it's temperature. Basically, if you do work(increasing the volume) on the object, it will raise it's internal energy, and subsequently it's temperature.

Thank you! good explanation

you're welcome :)

When a gas is compressed it heats up. feel your bicycle pump after you use it. you do work ON a gas by compressing it. DECREASING its volume.
