If your body’s hypothalamus is not functioning properly, which of the following will happen? -Your blood may become diluted by water that you drink. -You may become dehydrated because your kidneys will not hold onto enough water. -Your body will increase its production of thyroxine when your body temperature drops. -TRH will be secreted if thyroxine levels in the blood are low.

thomaster (thomaster):

Do you know what the hypothalamus is responsible for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No @thomaster

thomaster (thomaster):

metabolic processes, neurohormone secretion, hunger/thirst, body temperature are some

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would either be B or D?

thomaster (thomaster):

not B, i think the kidneys will still do their job.

thomaster (thomaster):

when the hypothalamus stops i think you would get really hungery and thirsty

thomaster (thomaster):

thyroxine is a hormone that leads to heat generation. But i don't think that hypothalamus malfunction will make the body temperature drop.

thomaster (thomaster):

TRH is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus that stimulates the release of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), and TSH stimulates the production of thyroxine.

thomaster (thomaster):

since the hypothalamus in this case is not working properly, no TRH will be sectreted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg thank you, Ughh I wish you were my bio teacher.

thomaster (thomaster):

What do you think is the answer? It's either A or B.. Don't know if your kidneys would not hold on enough water when hypothalamus is not working.. :( ill keep looking

thomaster (thomaster):

hm i just read that the hypothalamus detects when there is too much water in the blood. Then it'll send a sign to the pituitary gland to produce more ADH which will make the kidneys reduce the blood water level. So when the hypothalamus is not working properly, The body will not recognize when there is too much water in the blood. It's not B because if the hypothalamus is not working correct, the kidneys won't get a sign to get rid of the water. this means that the answer is A :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer was actually B.

thomaster (thomaster):

how is that possible :/ kidneys will remove water if the hypothalamus is working. If not it will hold the water so the blood will get diluted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well idk that's what it said.

thomaster (thomaster):

oke i guess i missed something then :P
