if sam takes 3 hours to do his work and carl takes 2 hours to do his work in 1 hour sam will do 1/3rd of the work and carl will do 1/2 of the work so if they work together in 1 hour they will do 1/2 work + 1/3 work = 5/6 work in 1 hour so 5/6 w = 1 hr we want w done | so w = 6/5 hrs
