i cant figure it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 + 8x + 4 = 0 =====> let's take as (8/2)^2 (x + x^2 + 8x + (8/2)^2 - (8/2)^2 + 4 = 0 x^2 + 8x + (42)^2 - (4)^2 + 4 = 0 x^2 + 8x + 16 - 16 + 4 = 0 (x + 4)^2 - 16 + 4 = 0 (x + 4)^2 - 12 = 0 <===== completing the square (x + 4)^2 = 12 (x + 4) = +/- √(12) x = - 4 +/- √(4 * 3) x = - 4 +/- 2√(3) the reason i chose completing the square is because we can't use factoring. we can use quadratic formula, but it is longer. we can use graphing but it is more work.

ok thnx
