So everyone knows what a nook or kindle is. What was the first one of those types of things? No, I do not mean: which was first? Kindle or nook? I want to know what was the very first type of those screened book-reader-thingy-mabobbers called?
Probably the Sony Data Discman in 1991. It was big, chunky, and weighed 2 lbs. It was $550 back then which, adjusted for inflation today, would be over $900. http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2010/technology/1010/gallery.ereader_history/index.html NuvoMedia's Rocket in 1998 was the first practical ebook reader that actually bears a much closer resemblance to the ones used today. It's the second slide in the link above, though this link from Project Gutenberg also talks it up. http://www.gutenbergnews.org/20110716/ebooks-1998-the-first-ebook-readers/
