Why cannot the drying agent be filtered off by vacuum filtration? ATTEMPT: I know that in vacuum filtration, the desired product is the precipitate that remains on the Buchner funnel (solid), while the undesired compound is removed by being sucked into the flask by the vacuum in the form of a liquid. Thus, vacuum filtration is for removing liquid from solid, while to filter off a drying agent would mean to remove the solid (drying agent) from the liquid, which may be the purpose of gravity filtration.
