take out 3 common in the denominator then 3(a^2 - 1) = 3(a+1)(a-1) in the numerator take out 2 in common 2(a^1 -2a +1 ) = 2(a+1)^2 cancel (a+1) in the numerator and denominator, you'll get 2(a+1)/3(a-1) hope u understood
