Why did Russia or was the Soviet Union why would they want the Berlin Wall i mean i see why they wanted control but why did we care about the Communism?

Before the Wall went up and the Communist bloc in Eastern Europe began tightening their borders, people were emigrating like crazy to the West to escape oppression. It was becoming embarrassing. Here was this "perfect system" that they wanted to spread throughout the world and people were risking death to escape into West Berlin and the freedom that it offered over the Soviet-backed East Berlin/East German government.
