anyone know anything about critical points, (several variable calculus module). I have a quick question.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that to determine them you need to find the first derivative right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what happens with a function that does not contain any joint terms, i.e \(x^4-2x^2-2y^3+6y\)

OpenStudy (primeralph):

or the hessian too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the critical points be each one of the possible x points paired with the y point?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

no, you would have to test manually.
