Explain how heat is transferred between a hot and a cold object by conduction — for example, a warm foot on a cold floor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

conduction involves the transfer of heat by direct contact between matter ( solid , liquid , gas) when two objects of different temperatures are brought into thermal contact with each other, thermal energy moves via kinetic energy from the object with the higher temperature to the object with the lower temperature. eventually the temps become equal as the kinetic energy reaches equilibrium
