4x+y=12 2x-2y=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are we trying to solve the system of equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (compassionate):

The best method here would be the elimination method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the way that i did it, was get one of the coefficients of variable to be the same, then subtract the equations from each other, leaving only one variable left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what answer did you get

OpenStudy (compassionate):

4x+y=12 2x-2y=6 Add the equations together. You want to get the y terms to cancel, so multiple the first euation by 2 8x + 2y = 24 2x - 2y = 6 Now add the equations like I said 10x = 30 Solve for x

OpenStudy (compassionate):

It's easier to solve for x then y.
