A bacterium undergoes mutation caused by an antibiotic. Specifically, the gene with the sequence AUGCCCACCCGA undergoes a frameshift mutation. Which of these sequences represents the mutated gene?

thomaster (thomaster):

Can you post the options too?

thomaster (thomaster):

I'll give an example of a frameshift mutation. The original sequence is: AUG|CCC|ACC|CGA So the coding strand would be UAC|GGG|UGG|GCU (the | represent the frames (codons) When let's say when deletion of the second base (U) occurs, The original sequence would be AGC|CCA|CCC|GA the coding strand will be UCG|GGU|GGG|CU You see the frames are now different, The first frame used to be UAC (Tyrosine) Now it is UCG (Serine). So entirely different amino acids are produced. I think you can recognize the mutated gene with this information.
