Help !!! Which functions in the table below give values that could come from exponential functions? Check all that apply. x -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 f(x) 0.6678... 1.1019... 1.8181... 3 4.95 8.1675 13.476375 g(x) 0.125 0.25 0.5 1 2 4 8 h(x) 0.25 0.5 0.75 1 1.25 1.5 1.75 k(x) 64 16 4 0 0.25 0.0625 0.0156 A. g(x) B. h(x) C. f(x) D. k(x)
exponential means that the difference between the numbers is not the same each time. the difference between them must be getting greater or smaller, but cannot remain the same or oscillate
once again robz im lost dude
okay think about these as if they are graphs. do you know what a quadratic function looks like? quadratic functions are functions whose highest power is 2. these are exponential functions
ok yeah
so look at f(x). is the difference in numbers changing for each iteration?
then take a look at h(x), is the difference between the numbers changing for that one? if not, than the equation is not exponential
no
im thinking c
for f(x), the difference in numbers IS changing
then i would choose a and d
that means f(x) IS a exponential function when i say "the difference in numbers" i mean: 1.1019 - 0.6678 == 1.8181 - 1.1018 == 3 - 1.8181 == the answer is A, C, and D. h(x) is the only non exponential function since the difference between the numbers is always 0.25
thanks once again man
