it depends on the type of software.......If it is related to database, then oracle 11g and SQL(and a little bit of basic)........internet applet, then java......games, them hard-core animation softwares and c++......etc etc

Usually, C++ is used to code games....for graphics maya or 3D max may be used....and for database again DBMS softwares such as oracle

Visual Basic is a language, could be cool for gaming; thats for beginners...
It's part of visual studio. visual studio has a lot of languages you can program in... just google that, you can also download dat :P its an IDE.

And you can't "download" C or any derivative; they come built in your computer, you can learn online how to compile them, google that too :P It would be best to also have an IDE; even if it comes with your computer.
and some derivatives *don't* have a built-in compiler, so some IDE like dev-cpp would fix that :P They have built-in compilers.

dev-cpp is a C++ IDE, which uses the compiler MinGW.

Visual Studio should be able to compile many languages, I'm thinking many C languages, too.
