\[x^2+2x+5=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or \[x^2+2x-5=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the subtact one sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then add 5 to both sides and write \[x^2+2x=5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1-sqrt6, -1+sqrt6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then half of 2 is 1, and \(1^2=1\) so the next step is to write \[(x+1)^2=5+1\] or \[(x+1)^2=6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take the square root of both sides, don't forget the \(\pm\) and write \[x+1=\pm\sqrt6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

finally subtract 1 from both sides to get \[x=-1\pm\sqrt 6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay wait whats the sq root of 6?
