I've never seen an integral in this form. Can someone help me with this please? What's significant about the 1/b ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is the average

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the length from \(0\) to \(b\) is \(b\) divide the integral by the length of the path to get the average value of the function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in other words, the average value of \(f\) over the interval \([a,b]\) is \[\frac{1}{b-a}\int_a^b f(x)dx\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in your example \(a=0\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Makes sense to me. Thanks! :)
