why is equation for translation of (x-2)^2 + (y+1)^2=16 by 3 units left and 5 units up= (x-5)^2 + (y+6)^2=16? How did they get the -5 and 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the center of \((x-2)^2+(y+1)^2=16\) is \((2,-1)\) if you shift it left 3 units and up 5 units the center should be \((-1,4)\) so there is something wrong here

I thought moving to left is positive and moving up is negative os I had (x+1)^2 + (y-4()^2=16 but that is wrong
