OpenStudy (espex):

Have you attempted any of them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes actually

OpenStudy (espex):

Okay, let's start with the first one, where did you get stuck?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the right answers i just want an explanation of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see what i did with the first one is find the area of the rectangle, which is base times height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i don't know what to do next

OpenStudy (espex):

What was the total square footage you came up with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

127.1256

OpenStudy (espex):

And you know that each tile covers 1sqft. So for each sqft it will cost you 2.49.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you times 127.1256 by 2.49

OpenStudy (espex):

Exactly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i get 316.5

OpenStudy (espex):

And which of your answers is closest to that number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (espex):

Precisely.

OpenStudy (espex):

How about the second one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get that one at all

OpenStudy (espex):

Okay, you are just plugging in your x/y values and determining which one of the equations could have generated that table.

OpenStudy (espex):

So start with the easy one. If x is 0 and y is 3, what equation could give you that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still don't get it

OpenStudy (espex):

Let's take the bottom equation, y=x-1, and the x/y pair of 0/3. If we plug the values in, is the statement true? 3=0-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not

OpenStudy (espex):

So the idea is to find the one that IS true, for all of the values in the table.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A is the right answer

OpenStudy (espex):

Indeed, very good.

OpenStudy (espex):

How about number 3?
