Quick Question!! I did a candy chromatography lab where i put four different colored M&M's in four drops of water, and then used Q-Tips to get those four colors and dab then separately on a coffee filter equal distance from each other.. I then placed the rectangular coffee filter (that i cute 3cm by 9cm) in 1/4 of salt water ( 1% salt solution) and another rectangle in 1/4 alcohol. Just enough so that the tip of the paper touched the solutions.

My Question is : What is a comparison of how each solution (salt water and alcohol) separated the pigments from each color of candy or ink type. AND Which solution worked better at separating each of the pigments, and why do you think that is? ( i chose salt water, but why would salt water work best? I chose it because of what i observed??)

*that i cut

the question is which solvent did the best job at separating the colors? Which strip showed the largest separation between the bands of color of each candy?

Yes, i already figured it out though, but thank you!(:
