x2+5x=14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 +5x -14 = 0 [(-b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4*a*c})/2*a\] 1 = a 5 = b 14 = c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get it thoe.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+5x=14 factor out an x x(x+5) =14 do you know how to solve that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay it will be x=9 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or am i wrong.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and x = 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how could i do it.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+5x=14 x(x+5) = 14 x = 14 and x + 5 = 14 x = 14-5 x = 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i was right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but you also have to have x = 14. there are two solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh okay so thats not it.? because i subracted 14 and 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^ 2+5x- 14= 0 \\ x^ 2-2x + 7x -14= 0 \\ x (x + 7) -2 (x + 7 ) = 0\\ (x + 7) (x +2) \\\\ x = 7, \ \ \ x = -2\]
