PLEASE HELP. MEDAL/FAN4FAN What is the tone of the following poem? What types of figurative language was used? "Dreams Hold fastto dreams Forif dreams die Life is a broken‐winged bird That cannotfly. Hold fastto dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow. ‐LangstonHughes "
" Life is a barren field" that is a metaphor which is figurative language
"Life is a broken-winged bird" << that is also a metaphor
And the tone of the poem is what you think the author is trying or was trying to say when he/she wrote it
This poem is very straightforward, yet uses creative figurative language to get the message that holding on to your 'dreams' is important. Two metaphors are used showing what life is like without the possession of your 'dreams'-- "Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly." and "Life is a barren field frozen with snow." Meaning that without dreams in mind life is limited and bland, wasting someone's full potential-- giving this poem the tone of warning, but also by revealing the negative affects it shows that dreams are positive and hopeful. Not only metaphors, but this poem also uses personification by giving 'life' and 'dreams' characteristics as if they were tangible and human like.
Thank you. (:
