A plumber is laying pipe. His assistant digs a trench in roughly the shape of a rectangular solid measuring 150 ft. in length, 9 inches deep along both sides, and 12 inches wide at the top and bottom. How many cubic feet of earth did he remove (to the nearest tenth)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) is 150 ft * 1 ft * (9/12) ft, or 112.5 cubic feet. 2) Volume of the rod in cubic feet is 12 * pi * r^2, where r is the radius of the rod in feet, which is 1/24 = 0.0654 cubic feet * 490 lb/cu.ft = 32 lb. I found this on yahoo. Hope it helps!
