Find the magnitude and direction of vector RS if R is (-4, -2) and S is (3, 7).

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how much do you know about vectors?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we can "move" the points so that we get a standard position vector that is equal to RS simply by moving R to the origin R is (-4, -2) and S is (3, 7) +4 +2 +4 +2 ----------------------- R' ( 0 , 0 ) S' (7,9) as such, S' is equal to the the vector RS

OpenStudy (amistre64):

direction is simply taking the inverse tangent of y/x; and the length is the square, add, sqrt of the x,y parts
