If one substance has a higher heat capacity than another substance, which will stay warmer longer after a temperature drop. Please explain

OpenStudy (jfraser):

substances that have high heat capacities not only heat up slowly, but cool down slowly, as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! That makes sense so then it would be the substance with a higher heat capacity. Thank you

OpenStudy (jfraser):

heat capacity is often described as a measure of a substance's "thermal inertia" its resistance to change in temp. a substance that takes a long time to heat up will also "hold onto" that heat and release it slowly as well
