Why is it important to know the volume of a fuel tank? (Don't know which category this goes in)

OpenStudy (ja1):

So you know how much weight it will be (For an airplane) and so you know how much gas you need to fill it up (car)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why? Will the weight weigh down the plane or cause an explosion in the wing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because knowing the volume tells you how many gallons it will hold. That, and knowing how many miles you can go on a gallon, will tell you how far you can go on a full tank.

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well if you are a cargo plane then you need to know the weight of your tank so you know the maximum amount of cargo you can take, if it is too much the plane might not even take off

OpenStudy (ja1):

Planes can only carry so much

OpenStudy (ja1):

and yes qweqwe is right aswell

Both of those are pretty good answers. Thanks! I'm trying to gather research on fuel tanks in airbuses and why it's important to know the volume/surface area etc.

I see well glad to help
