Yes, the admins added it so you can search topics on OpenStudy.

Yeah, I'm blocked too. Favorite buttons is placed there so you can favorite topics you like and go back later.

so this isnt the app? i was confused cause i am on chrome and have the app as well lol

thats the chrome app you have installed TUOSA by @dumbsearch2 ,
because of which u have search option and favorite tab.
Its not what OS admins did, if you uninstall that app, your OS will be back to normal.

The favorite button and search bar are both part of the app.
