simplify using the product FOIL (5x-5)(2x-4)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

(5x - 5)(2x - 4) FOIL 10x^2 + 20x - 10x + 20 10x^2 - 10x + 20 factor.. 10(x^2 - x + 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what the FOIL method is?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oops made a mistake... 10x^2 + 20x - 10x + 20 10x^2 + 10x + 20 factor 10(x^2 + x + 2)

Ok Thank You! got all understood all of my other questions on my assingment exect for this one. Thanks for clearing it up a bit!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Do I need to explain what I did ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we would perfer that you DO explain what you did ... this IS a study site after all

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

It will be no problem for me to explain it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

FOIL stands for First, Outside, Inside, Last (5x - 5)(2x - 4) now you multiply the first terms in each set.. 5x * 2x = 10x^2 now you multiply the outside terms... 5x * -4 = - 20x now you multiply the inside terms.. -5 * 2x = -10x now you take the last terms... -5 * -4 = 20 Now put it all together... 10x^2 - 20x - 10x + 20 (combine like terms) 10x^2 - 30x + 20 (I made a mistake again on the previous answers...this one is correct) now we can factor.. 10(x^2 - 3x + 2) <-- answer I am sorry about the mistakes on the previous answers. Go with this one. Do you have any questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok no, Thank you very much

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sorry about the mistakes.....I hope you understand how to do this type of problem....I hope I helped
