word problem: Bonnie wants to paint a circle on a wall in her bedroom. The height of the wall is 8 feet, from floor to ceiling. She wants the circle to be 1 foot away from the floor and 1 foot away from the ceiling. What is the radius of the circle she will paint? What is the area of the circle? What is the circumference of the circle?

OpenStudy (ivancsc1996):

|dw:1367970614048:dw| You can see that the radius "r" is half of the diameter "d". You also can figure out the diameter by subtracting one foot from the bottom and one foot from the top to the total 8ft. This written out should be:\[r=\frac{ d }{ 2 }=\frac{ 8ft-1ft-1ft }{ 2 }=3ft\]Now to find the area you can use the following equation:\[A=\pi r ^{2}=\pi (3ft)^{2}=9\pi ft ^{2}\]Finally the circumference can be found through:\[C=2 \pi r=2\pi 3ft=6\pi ft\]
