Please Help?! I am doing a project over Hot Air Ballooning and I need to come up with a thesis. Could any one help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you be more specific? are you writing about the history of hot air balloons? are you going to design a hot air balloon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i am going to build a hot air balloon and she wants us to come up with a thesis that will show how to improve the hot air balloons we have now. @gsoda

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The hot air balloon that I am creating will be initiated with the use of a propane tank

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the goal is to suggest improvements on existing designs, so we need to find out about hot air balloons, ideal gas behavior, and the complications in a real world situation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well we now as we increase temperature it increases the speed of the molecules and therefore decreases the density causing it to go up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could changing the material or what it is made of affect it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right, given two ideal gases at the same volume (the volume enclosed by the balloon) and the same pressure, the hotter gas has a lower density than the cooler gas. that's what the ideal gas law predicts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. But what would i say in the thesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are trying to suggest how to improve it? or is it okay just to describe the science of how it works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess that I am suggesting how to improve it since that is what we have to include in the thesis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand the science behind it, it is coming up with a thesis that also includes improvement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to suggest how to improve a thing, we kinda have to read about the thing as it stands in this day and age, don't we?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even when we understand the science, i think the teacher also wants to read a brief description of the basics of how it works. it's okay to explain something to someone who already knows it as long as we do it well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am more interested in your answer than what answers dot com says. i think the same goes for the reader of your paper.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could I say By changing the material used to make the hot air balloon, the distance of the hot air balloon would increase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm by distance do you mean how high it will rise? and how do you plan to change the material? what are the criteria for a good material? toughness? heat-resistance? we don't want the balloon to melt in the middle of our flight right? my wings are too small for flight.
