a positive integer is one more than twice another. Their product is 78. Find the two integers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 and 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i dont know how to get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about we set up an equation? let x=larger integer and y=the smaller one. So, x=2y+1 and we also know that, x*y=78

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have always been very good at guessing and checking sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so plug x into x*y=78?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitute value of x given in the first equation into the second one. Solve for y, move all the terms to one side and set it equal to zero, then factor it out. Set each factor equal to zero also, solve for y.

yes lekekel. (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay :D thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. Hope it made sense!
