Determine if the graph is symmetric about the x-axis, the y-axis, or the origin. r = 5 cos 3θ

OpenStudy (precal):

graph it first

OpenStudy (precal):

if you can cut it across and fold it together and they are the same then it has symmetry about the x axis if you can cut it up and down and fold it together and they are the same then it has symmetry about the y axis hard to see the symmetry with respect to the origin, but usually it has to do with points for all (x,y) you have (-x,-y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so from me graphing it.. i believe its symmetry about the x-axis? right

OpenStudy (precal):

what is this a polar? Is it a rose with 3 petals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.. it was two petals to the right and one on the right

OpenStudy (precal):

|dw:1368046901441:dw|does it look like this? I am guessing by the way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (precal):

then you are correct, sorry my picture is not precise and I am too lazy to go get my graphing calculator.....just doing it off the top of my head
