What is homeostasis?

OpenStudy (tracyy):

Think of a thermostat. It regulates the temperature of your home. Homeostasis does the same, but with internal bodily functions. It regulates your body temperature, pH, and much more. Simply put: It stabilizes your body's internal environment.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Homeostasis are the integrative actions of the systems of an organism that result in the maintenance of the optimal internal environment despite variations in the external conditions. It works through negative feedback.
