if you just look at the stars closest to us( which we might expect to form a representative sample of stars in our region of the galaxy), what spectral type seems to be most common? are these stars relatively bright or dim, in terms of their luminosity?

given the fact that we are in one of the spirals of our galaxy, the stars near to our sun should be relatively young. Hence they should be bluer and brighter
